These are the questions Bronx owners and tenants ask us most often, with short answers. They cover price, co-op and condo buildings, lead paint in older buildings, permits and timing. Our guide pages go deeper on each topic. If your question is missing, call or text (718) 866-3263.
How much does it cost to paint an apartment in the Bronx?
By national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, apartment painting costs $2 to $6 per square foot: $800 to $3,600 for a studio and $1,200 to $4,800 for a one bedroom. Those are not our quotes. Plaster condition, ceilings, trim and building rules set your price, and we give it in writing after a free estimate.
Do you work in co-op and condo buildings?
Yes. Most buildings ask for a certificate of insurance and set working hours for contractors. Send us your building's requirements and we plan the job around them.
My building is pre-war. What about lead paint?
Assume old layers may contain lead in any building from before 1978. The EPA's RRP rule covers paid work that disturbs paint in those homes, and New York City's Local Law 1 adds rules for rental apartments in buildings built before 1960.
Do I need a permit or approval to paint?
Painting on its own does not normally need a Department of Buildings permit. Co-op and condo boards often want notice. On a landmark or in a historic district, a change of exterior color needs Landmarks Preservation Commission approval.
When can exterior painting be done in the Bronx?
Roughly May through October, on dry days when the surface and the night temperature stay above the minimum on the paint label. Interior painting goes on all year.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. The Bronx Painting Company is licensed and insured. Estimates are free and the quote is in writing.
How much does it cost to paint a house in Bronx?
It depends on the size, the amount of prep and the paint you choose. We walk the job and give you a written quote.
How long does it take?
Most rooms take 1-2 days. A full exterior usually takes 3-5 days, depending on weather.
Do you do the prep work?
Yes. Patching, sanding, caulking and priming are part of the job and the quote.
Do I need to move my furniture?
We move and cover furniture and protect floors. We only ask you to put away small and fragile items.
What paint do you use?
Quality paints from major brands, chosen for the surface and the local weather. We can match a color you already have.
